Design points
The bridge consists primarily of K-trusses and tension members. K-trusses are designed for short spans. Therefore, it is strong in compression. The tensile members are responsible for transferring the load of the center of the bridge to both ends. That is why this bridge is thin but strong. This isalso the secret of its beauty. This bridge has a triangular cross section. A triangular cross section requires fewer members than a square cross section. This makes the bridge lighter.
Describe about the failure
The bridge is designed to distribute the deflection in the center to both ends. The system worked well for loads up to 620g. However, when the weight exceeded 700 g, the central area moment of inertia increased, and the member bearing it could no longer withstand bending. As a result, bending failure occurred in the center. The bridge then broke. The specific strength was 6.71. it was the second-place result in the school competition. I would take this result as a positive. It is the best bridge that combines beauty, function and strength.
